Fraudulent letting agent jailed

Following a long and very complex investigation led by Barnet Council’s Trading Standards team a fraudulent letting agent has been jailed for four and a half years. Over 60 tenants and landlords lost some £221,000 in a scam lasting six years.

London Trading Standards recognise how important it is to tackle fraudulent and unfair trading practices in the rental sector and are working with other regulatory partners to ensure transparency and fairness in the lettings and property market.

This week also saw the launch of a tookit produced by the National Approved Lettings Scheme designed to assist local authorities tackle rogue letting agents.
