£25k of illegal and fake headphones, sunglasses and vapes seized

More than 1,000 illegal and counterfeit vapes, headphones, mobile phone accessories, and sunglasses were seized from four Hackney businesses by Council trading standards officers last month. Hayes shopkeeper fined after selling banned skin lightening products

A Hayes shopkeeper has been fined £1,260 after selling an illegal skin lightening cream he told trading standard officers he thought was a harmless moisturiser. Jean Bitulu, owner of John Foods in Hayes Shopping Centre was sentenced at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on 24 May, after admitting seven counts of breaching the Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulations

Enforcement action stops sale of over £50k of unsafe electrical goods

Havering Council’s trading standards team helped to stop unsafe electrical goods being sold to the public in an investigation which saw a company director prosecuted. Earlier this month, Rizwan Nasir (52), of Havering, was given a three-month prison sentence for offences of failing to comply with the requirements of safety regulations at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
